What is the ruling on ruqyah for the evil eye and envy using "shabbah" (alum), which is passed over the body while reciting the Two Protectors (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn), and then thrown into fire, so that it is said the hearts of the envious boil and the effect of the evil eye disappears?

Ruqyah (definition) for the evil eye is legislated in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah (definition), but using stones for it is not legislated. Malik disliked for the reciter of ruqyah to hold an iron object or salt in his hand, or to tie knots in a thread. As for throwing a stone into fire to boil it, believing that this will remove the evil eye, it is merely a saying without knowledge. It is feared that this might be like the incense used by charlatans, as the Shari'ah has not made that a means to ward off the evil eye. The Muslim should suffice with what Allah has legislated.
