Is it permissible for a widow to go to the hospital and uncover her face during transport solely for treatment?

The preponderant opinion is that a woman's face is 'awrah (private/uncoverable) and should not be exposed to non-mahram (definition) men unless there is a necessity. Her going to the hospital for treatment is not a necessity that permits uncovering the face, because she can go out while covering her face. It is permissible for a woman observing 'iddah (definition) (waiting period) after her husband's death to go out for treatment or similar necessities that cannot be delegated, based on the hadith (definition) narrated by Muslim from Jabir: "Yes, go and harvest your date palms, for perhaps you may give charity or do a good deed." A woman observing 'iddah after death is like a divorced woman in this ruling.
