Sterilization procedures are not permissible unless there is a Sharia (definition)-compliant necessity, such as a confirmed danger to the life of the mother or the fetus during pregnancy. The fear of recurrence of a hereditary disease is not sufficient to justify it unless specialists determine that there is a high probability and severe risk of the disease being transmitted. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has stated that probabilistic medical outcomes should not be relied upon because matters of pregnancy are unseen and are in the hands of Allah. One's hope in Allah must be great, and one's thoughts of Him good, without pessimism.
