Is it permissible to perform a vasectomy on the husband, with the possibility of restoring reproductive capability in the future, given the wife's extreme fear of childbirth and her suffering from depression, in addition to other contraceptive methods not suiting her?

If the procedure leads to permanent infertility, it is forbidden because it falls under the category of castration, which is prohibited. If it does not lead to permanent infertility, then it appears to be impermissible for several reasons:

1. The basic principle is the impermissibility of surgical incision without a legal justification. This surgery is not necessary and can be avoided. 2. There is no guarantee that this surgery will not result in harm, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There should be neither harm nor reciprocating harm." 3. The procedure may necessitate exposing the awrah (private parts), which is not permissible except out of necessity or a need that is equivalent to necessity, and this procedure is not such a case.
