Is it considered a sin for a wife to abandon her husband due to his ill-treatment and continuous abuse, while she wishes to remain in the home for the sake of the children?

It is not permissible for a wife to abandon her husband or refuse him if she is content to remain with him, except for a legitimate Shar'i excuse. However, she has the right to complain, seek divorce, and take the matter to a judge. The husband should be advised and reminded of Allah regarding his poor treatment and neglect of his family, and help can be sought from one of his relatives for this. The husband must grant his wife her right to intimacy and consider her feelings. She and her children have the right to maintenance from him, and she may take it from his money without his knowledge if he fails to provide it. It is not permissible for the husband to take anything from his wife's money except with her willing consent, nor is it permissible for him to disclose her private secrets.
