Is it permissible for a Muslim to wear the distinctive and eye-catching attire of their own country in another country? And is this considered a "libas shuhra" (garment of fame/ostentation)?

The Sunnah prohibits wearing clothes of ostentation (shuhrah). Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wears a garment of ostentation in this world, Allah will clothe him in a garment of humiliation on the Day of Resurrection." (Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and An-Nasa'i). The Madhhab of the Hanbalis considers wearing clothes of ostentation to be disliked (makruh), while Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah chose to deem it forbidden (haram), restricting it to cases where the intention is ostentation.

Determining whether a specific garment is one of ostentation refers back to the custom of the land. If people do not find it unusual, then there is no harm in it. A garment of ostentation does not have a specific form or characteristic; rather, it refers to that by which a person becomes famous, or by which he is pointed at, and which is outside the customs of people, such that its wearer becomes famous and is talked about.

The intention is that one should not wear the utmost in beauty and quality of clothing in a way that causes him to be pointed at, nor should he wear the utmost in worn-out clothing in a way that causes him to be pointed at.
