How sound is the narration attributed to Ibn Mas'ud regarding the merit of the supplication (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty and Your mercy, for none possesses them except You) for seeking provision?

The hadith (definition) narrated by Al-Tabarani from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, with the wording: "O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty and Your mercy, for none possesses them but You," has a chain of transmission that is not free from weakness. This is due to the独 (uniqueness) of a narrator whose trustworthiness is disputed (Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-Burjumi), and other issues in the chain, such as disagreement over whether it is connected (mawsul) or mursal (lacking a Companion in the chain). However, this hadith is strengthened by the existence of another mursal chain from Husayn ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, which gives the hadith strength and makes it suitable for seeking comfort and guidance in the chapter of supplications (du'a), remembrances (adhkar), or virtuous deeds (fada'il al-a'mal).
