Does not what the father does, in discriminating between his children in terms of provision – whereby he provides for the son much more than he provides for the daughters, justifying this by saying that the son’s money is not wasted unlike the daughter’s money which goes to the in-laws – contradict the justice commanded by Allah, and cause bitterness in the soul due to this differential treatment?

It is more befitting for a father to please his daughter at her wedding, especially if he is wealthy. Nevertheless, furnishing the marital home and providing furniture is the sole duty of the husband, not the wife or her guardian. As for marrying off the son with the father's money, it is incumbent upon the father if the son is unable to bear the costs of marriage. As for the excess money that the son paid above the customary dower (mahr al-mithl), the father must equalize between his male and female children in it.
