Is it obligatory for someone with little knowledge of religious sciences to follow the scholars, and in this case, which scholars should he follow? Should he follow the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta, despite its controversial fatwas, or should he follow the scholars who adhere to the Salaf, and what should he do if their opinions differ?

It is permissible for the muqallid (one who follows a mujtahid) to seek a fatwa (definition) from someone renowned for their eligibility to issue fatwas, or from someone who has been vouched for in that regard. If the qualified muftis differ on a matter concerning the common person, then the muqallid should follow the one they deem most reliable. If they are equally reliable in the muqallid's estimation, then they may choose to follow either of the two opinions.
