Is it permissible to make up missed obligatory prayers instead of performing the Sunnah prayers?

A Muslim must make up missed prayers, and this is the view of the Four Imams. It is better to observe the regular Sunnah prayers along with making up the missed ones. However, if this is difficult due to an excuse, then making up the missed prayers takes precedence over Sunnah and supererogatory prayers; in fact, it is obligatory.
