The answer

Maintaining kinship ties is a fundamental obligation. The shortcomings of relatives should not deter you, for the true maintainer of ties is he who connects with those who have cut him off, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who perfectly maintains a kinship tie is not the one who reciprocates, but the one who, when his relatives cut him off, maintains ties with them." And his saying: "If you are as you have said, then it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes, and you will continue to have a supporter from Allah against them as long as you persist in that."
