It is permissible to pray four rak'ahs before Asr, due to the narration of the hadith (definition): "May Allah have mercy on a person who prays four rak'ahs before Asr," and this is a hasan (definition) (good) hadith. Some scholars have authenticated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed them. Therefore, these rak'ahs can be added to the other regular sunnah (definition) prayers: two rak'ahs after Dhuhr, two rak'ahs after Maghrib, two rak'ahs after Isha, and two rak'ahs before Fajr.
