Is there a specific minimum and maximum period for nifas (postpartum bleeding) that cannot be less or more than it?

First: Postpartum bleeding (nifas (definition)) is the blood discharged from the uterus due to childbirth. There is no minimum limit for its duration. Once a woman becomes pure, she must perform ghusl (definition) (ritual bath), prayer, and fasting.

Second: Scholars have differed regarding the maximum duration of postpartum bleeding. The most accurate opinion is that its maximum is forty days and nights, based on the hadith (definition) of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): "A woman in postpartum bleeding used to remain (without praying or fasting) for forty days during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." This is the view of the majority of scholars. If she sees purity before the forty days, she should perform ghusl and pray. If the blood continues beyond forty days, it is considered irregular bleeding unless it coincides with her regular menstrual cycle, in which case it is considered menstruation.
