What is the ruling on one who dies while unconscious and unable to utter the Two Testimonies of Faith (Shahadatain)?

A person who is unconscious is not obligated to utter the Shahada or perform any act of worship while unconscious. Their state is judged based on what preceded their loss of consciousness; if they were steadfast in obedience, they are considered among the righteous. If they were a Muslim monotheist with some shortcomings in acts of obedience, then mercy should be sought for them, forgiveness prayed for them, and good invoked upon them, and it is hoped that their illness serves as an expiation for their sins.
