Is the 'aqiqah slaughtered for the newborn on the seventh day—two sheep for the male and one sheep for the female—and is the food distributed forty days after birth?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded that two sheep be sacrificed for a boy and one sheep for a girl as 'aqiqah (definition), and this is firmly established and authentic. It is not necessary for the 'aqiqah to be from the lamb species. As for preparing food after forty days—what is called "al-Tulu’" (the emergence)—it has no basis in Islamic law and is among the newly invented innovations.
