The question

Is it obligatory to pay Zakat on saved money that has been held for a full year, knowing that paying Zakat will increase the amount of the loan needed to buy a house in a safe area, far from the people of innovation (Ahl al-Bid'ah)?

The answer

Zakat becomes obligatory on wealth once it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a full year has passed over it, even if its owner needs it to build a house or buy a car. Wealth that has reached the nisab and over which a full year has passed is subject to zakat, regardless of whether it is intended for purchasing a house or if it necessitates taking a loan because of it. Zakat purifies and develops wealth, and purifies the giver of sins. Allah Almighty says: "Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase."
