What is the ruling on wine if it turns into vinegar, or if its alcohol content is removed by fire when used in food?

If wine turns into vinegar spontaneously, it is pure and permissible according to the majority of scholars. However, if it is intentionally transformed, it does not become pure according to the preponderant opinion. Mixing wine with food is absolutely forbidden, even if its alcohol content has gone, because possessing wine is prohibited, and mixing it with food is even more severely prohibited. A forbidden act cannot be a cause for purity.
