What is the grading of the Hadith: "Al-Azd are the lions of Allah on earth. People want to humiliate them, but Allah refuses except to elevate them. And there will come a time upon people when a man will say, 'Oh, would that my father had been from Al-Azd! Oh, would that my mother had been from Al-Azd!'" And what is its interpretation?

Al-Tirmidhi narrated a Hadith from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Al-Azd are the lions of Allah on Earth. People want to bring them down, but Allah refuses except to raise them. A time will come upon people when a man will say: 'I wish my father was from Al-Azd, I wish my mother was from Al-Azd.'" Al-Tirmidhi described it as gharib (strange) and said that its mawquf (stopped at a Companion) version is more authentic. Al-Albani declared it weak. A sahih (authentic) Hadith was also narrated by Al-Tirmidhi from Abu Hurairah: "Leadership is among Quraish, judgment is among the Ansar, the Adhan is among the Abyssinians, and trustworthiness is among Al-Azd – meaning Yemen." More authentic than this is what Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated about the virtues of the people of Yemen from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The people of Yemen have come to you; they are the most tender of hearts and softest of souls. Faith is Yemeni, wisdom is Yemeni, and pride and arrogance are among the owners of camels, while tranquility and dignity are among the owners of sheep." The meaning of "Lions of Allah" is His soldiers and supporters of His religion. "To bring them down" means to belittle and humiliate them. "Allah refuses except to raise them" means He will grant them victory and honor.
