Islam has enjoined kindness to neighbors. Scholars have divided neighbors into three categories: a neighbor with three rights (the Muslim kin), a neighbor with two rights (the distant Muslim or the close non-Muslim), and a neighbor with one right (the distant non-Muslim). It is incumbent to treat a Shiite neighbor with kindness, invite them [to Islam], and advise them with wisdom and good counsel. However, if visiting them entails a greater harm, then visiting them is not obligatory.
