Is participating in contests and raffles a form of usury?

It is permissible to participate in competitions if their purpose is to benefit Muslims and provide them with religious or worldly knowledge, on condition that the prize comes from a donor with the aim of encouraging contestants towards beneficial knowledge. However, if the intention is to collect money from contestants in exchange for an uncertain chance of winning, then this is gambling.
