Is it normal for the feeling of hypocrisy or showing off to be followed by commitment, then a relapse?

Hypocrisy is either doctrinal or practical, not merely a feeling. If a person is engaged in either type of hypocrisy, they must hasten to repent. As for weakness in mindfulness or a lack of perfect devotion to Allah, this is natural, and even the Companions complained about it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that a person experiences moments of presence and moments of languor. As for showing off (riyaa'), it is minor shirk (definition), and one must repent from it and dedicate worship solely to Allah, for Allah will say to those who showed off on the Day of Resurrection: "Go to those for whom you used to show off in the world and see if you find any reward with them!"
