Is it permissible to memorize the Qur’an correctly and with good tajwid, first by listening and understanding the tafsir, and then studying the principles of tajwid afterwards, given that studying the principles of tajwid takes a long time and delays memorization?

Reciting the Qur’an with tajweed is obligatory for a capable reciter, because Allah revealed it in a murattal (rhythmic and melodious) way and commanded its recitation in that manner. Tartīl (rhythmic recitation) involves beautifying the letters and knowing where to pause. This entails correcting the pronunciations and establishing the letters according to the manner in which the Companions received them from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The lowest level of tajweed is al-ḥadr (rapid recitation), and the recitation should be deliberate, preserving the letters. Those who say that reciting it with tajweed is not obligatory are referring to exaggeration in it. However, knowing the rules of tajweed is not a religious obligation. It is permissible to memorize the Qur’an with tajweed without studying the rules of tajweed, but by applying them practically.
