The statement that everything in the universe operates solely according to the laws of nature, and that nature is the sole dispenser of the universe's affairs, is polytheism (shirk) and disbelief (kufr) in Allah Almighty. Ibn Hazm considers this statement to be foolishness and ignorance, for "nature" is merely the power of a thing through which its qualities operate; it is an accident (arad) that cannot comprehend, and attributing innovative actions to it is extreme ignorance. The true doer is Allah, the Creator of all.
