The answer

We have explained that many scholars do not obligate expiation () upon one who masturbates in ; rather, they obligate repentance and making up the fast (qada'). The fact that expiation was paid does not waive the make-up fast, even for those who obligate expiation, they obligate it alongside the make-up fast. The intended expiation is fasting two consecutive months or feeding sixty poor people if unable to fast. If the make-up fast is delayed beyond the following Ramadan, a (expiatory payment) for its delay becomes obligatory.
