Does paying expiation suffice for making up the days of Ramadan fasting that were broken by masturbation during the daytime?

We have explained that many scholars do not obligate expiation (kaffarah (definition)) upon one who masturbates in Ramadan (definition); rather, they obligate repentance and making up the fast (qada'). The fact that expiation was paid does not waive the make-up fast, even for those who obligate expiation, they obligate it alongside the make-up fast. The intended expiation is fasting two consecutive months or feeding sixty poor people if unable to fast. If the make-up fast is delayed beyond the following Ramadan, a fidyah (definition) (expiatory payment) for its delay becomes obligatory.
