What can be said to console the questioner on the the death of his mother, and does the reward for reciting the Qur’an reach the deceased?

We ask God to forgive your mother and have mercy on her, and to reward you for your affliction. We advise you to be patient and seek reward from God, for God has promised Paradise to the patient. Strive to supplicate for your mother for forgiveness and mercy. Perhaps her illness was an expiation for her, and she will be counted among the martyrs of the Hereafter. As for reciting the Quran or performing other acts of obedience, it is permissible to gift their reward to the deceased, and the deceased benefits from it.
