Is the repentance of one who laughed at a joke told about the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then regretted it and cut ties with the one who told it, accepted?

Mocking the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or ridiculing him is an act of disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam, even if done in jest. This is based on Allah's saying: "And if you ask them, they will surely say, 'We were only indulging in idle talk and play.' Say, 'Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?' Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief." (Quran 9:65-66). And whoever listens to such talk while assenting to it is a partner to its speaker, based on Allah's saying: "Indeed, you would then be like them." (Quran 4:140). However, whoever repents with sincere repentance, Allah will accept his repentance, and repentance wipes out what came before it. The questioner has done well by cutting ties with that company and feeling remorse.
