Is it permissible for me to take a portion of the Zakat on wealth, which I have been entrusted with distributing to the poor, in my capacity as one of those employed to collect and distribute it?

Those who administer zakat (definition) are individuals appointed by the Muslim ruler to collect, safeguard, and distribute it. The agent of the owner of the wealth for its disbursement is not considered one of them. The share allocated to the administrator is forfeited if the owner or their agent is the one who distributes the zakat. In this case, the agent acts on behalf of the owner of the wealth, not as an administrator of zakat, and therefore is not entitled to a share from it, as they are a private agent. If a person is appointed to distribute zakat, their wages are paid from the principal's money, not from the zakat funds.
