All prayers must be observed at their appointed times. Most jurists hold that one who sleeps before the prayer time begins and does not wake up until after its time has expired incurs no sin, and they do not obligate taking measures to wake up. However, persistence in this indicates a weakness of faith and may lead to something more serious. Therefore, some scholars have held that it is obligatory to take measures that assist in waking up for prayer at its appointed time, such as using an alarm clock, and they have forbidden staying up late if it results in missing the Fajr prayer. Whoever fears negligence and inquires about his religion is on the path of good, and he should strive not to miss the Fajr prayer, for it is one of the heaviest prayers for the hypocrites.
