How can the Almighty's saying, "Indeed, you do not guide whom you like," be reconciled with His saying, "And indeed, you do guide to a straight path"?

There is no contradiction between the two verses, for guidance is of two types: the guidance of divine grace and inspiration, which is exclusive to Allah Almighty, and which is denied to the Prophet, peace be upon him, in His saying, "Indeed, you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills." And the guidance of instruction and clarification, which is affirmed for the Prophet, peace be upon him, in His saying, "And indeed, you do guide to a straight path." General guidance is the clarification and elucidation of the path of truth, while specific guidance is Allah's favor of granting success to a servant.
