A vow (nadhr (definition)) contingent upon the occurrence of a specific event is not binding until the condition it was tied to materializes. If a vow was contingent upon a certain profit being made, and this profit was not realized, then fulfilling the vow is not obligatory, because the condition it was tied to did not occur. And making a vow is disliked (makrooh).
