Is looking at the Kaaba an act of worship, or does it hold special merit?

No authentic Hadith has been reported concerning the virtue of looking at the Kaaba. The narrations cited in this regard do not establish virtues for deeds, because such virtues can only be established through the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Establishing any act of worship that has no basis in Islamic law is considered an innovation (bid'ah). However, if looking at it is accompanied by contemplation of the House, its majesty, and its veneration, then this contemplation is an act of worship for which a person is rewarded.
