The answer

It is not permissible to subscribe to commercial insurance (non-Islamic), whether health or life insurance, unless it is imposed by the state as a mandatory measure for employees. In this case, subscription is permissible out of necessity, but it is not permissible to take more than what was paid to the insurance company. As for cooperative insurance, it is absolutely permissible. In the case of mandatory commercial insurance, if the deceased had entitlements with the insurance company, the heirs are permitted to receive them. If the company gifts an amount to the heirs, there is no impediment to taking and benefiting from it.
