The answer

The month of Ramadan is an opportunity to raise children upon obedience to Allah. Therefore, parents should monitor their children’s fasting, remind them of the true meaning of fasting—that it is for attaining piety and forgiveness of sins—teach them table manners, and prevent them from prolonging meals so that they do not miss Maghrib prayer. They should also remind them of the condition of the poor and needy. Furthermore, both parents should help the mother in preparing and clearing the dining table, and remind the children of the Qiyam prayer and Sahur and its blessings, while paying attention to performing Fajr prayer in congregation at the mosque. Parents should also revive the last ten nights by performing Qiyam and waking up family members, and encourage young children to fast with praise and rewards. It is also preferable to perform Umrah. The husband should not burden his wife with food preparations beyond her capacity. Ramadan is the month of the Quran; therefore, a session should be held for reading and teaching the family. Children should be encouraged to spend [in charity] and check on neighbors, and they should be prevented from wasteful late-night activities. Finally, remember the family gathering in Paradise.
