What is the ruling on supplicating with the Beautiful Names of Allah, in poetic verse, in the manner found in the Damiyatiyya poetic composition and the poetic composition of the Beautiful Names of Allah by Sayyidi Ahmad al-Dardir, and is it permissible for a Muslim to supplicate with them individually even though they are not from the Sunnah?

It is permissible to supplicate using the Beautiful Names of Allah, based on His saying, the Most High: "And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them" (Quran 7:180), and the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "I ask You by every name belonging to You, by which You have named Yourself... to make the Quran the spring of my heart..." (the rest of the Hadith). Ibn al-Qayyim held the view that the best supplication is that in which the supplicant seeks intercession with Allah through His names and attributes.
