The question

What is the sunnah-prescribed order for reciting Al-Mu'awwidhatayn and Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad? Is it permissible to deviate from it? Should each surah be recited three times before moving on to the next? Does this order apply to spitting on the hands before sleeping? Is it permissible to seek refuge with them inside and outside prayer, and to wipe oneself and others with them?

The answer

It is permissible to recite Surahs Al- and Al-Mu'awwidhat (Al-Falaq and An-Nas) three times after prayer, and there is wide latitude in the order of their recitation. As for bedtime, one should cup their hands together, blow into them, recite these surahs, and then wipe their body with their hands three times. The correct order is to recite before blowing. Seeking refuge with Al-Mu'awwidhatayn is prescribed both within and outside of prayer, and it is to wipe oneself and others with them.
