To what extent is the hadith "Any woman who adorns herself, meaning with a gold necklace, will have a similar one of fire placed around her neck, and any woman who places a gold earring in her ear will have Allah place a similar earring of fire in her ear on the Day of Resurrection" authentic, and is it forbidden for women to wear gold?

Al-Albani, Al-Arna'ut, and Al-Balushi declared the hadith (definition) prohibiting women from wearing gold to be weak. A consensus has been reported on the permissibility of women wearing gold, and that the hadiths of prohibition are abrogated or that the prohibition is for ostentation. Some contemporary scholars believe in the prohibition of women wearing circular gold, based on authentic hadiths, but others, like Sheikh Ibn Baz and Ibn Al-Uthaymeen, have refuted them. Mustafa Al-Adawi authored a book on the permissibility for women to wear both circular and non-circular gold.
