The answer

The questioner should know that the calculation of the Hawl (one lunar year) for zakat is based on lunar months, not Gregorian months, due to the Almighty's saying: {They ask you about the new moons. Say: They are fixed times for the people and for the Hajj...} Therefore, she should look at the month of March when the money reached the nisab, and its corresponding lunar month. The year of the nisab then begins from that month. When the Hawl is complete, she should pay the zakat on her money. As for the money that increased beyond the original nisab, if it is a result of the first (from its profit), then its zakat is due with it and its Hawl is the same as its Hawl. If it is not a result of it, then zakat is not obligatory on it until its Hawl is complete. However, it is permissible to combine it with the first money and pay zakat on all of it when the Hawl of the first money is complete, or to wait for the completion of the Hawl of the newly acquired money. It is not a condition for the newly acquired money to reach the nisab on its own, because it is considered supplementary to the first money if it is of the same type.
