What is the ruling on marrying a transgender woman?

The ruling on sex change varies depending on the circumstances. If the woman was originally female but developed some male characteristics and had them removed, she remains essentially female and it is permissible to marry her. However, if the person was originally male and was surgically transformed into a female, he remains essentially male, and it is not permissible to marry him. Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Musleh clarified that gender reassignment has two situations:

1. First Situation: If the transformation is to reveal the true original gender, for instance, if the person was originally female but developed male characteristics, then it is permissible to remove these characteristics medically. The person reverts to their original female gender, female rulings apply to them, and it is permissible for a man to marry her.

2. Second Situation: If the transformation is to conceal the characteristics of the original gender and display characteristics of the opposite gender, this is a grave sin and an alteration of Allah's creation. This tampering does not change the person's true reality. If a male undergoes a transformation operation to become female, he still retains the rulings of masculinity, and it is not permissible for a man to marry him.
