Which is better and more rewarding: spending the time between Dhuhr and Asr engaging in supererogatory prayers, or reciting the Qur'an, performing dhikr, redoubled tasbeeh, and sending blessings upon the Prophet?

The scholars mentioned that the category of supererogatory prayers is better than the category of remembrance (dhikr) and Qur'an recitation, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "And know that the best of your deeds is prayer," and because prayer includes recitation and remembrance. Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that prayer is better than recitation for other than itself, but if a person finds diligence, contemplation, and understanding in recitation without prayer, then what is more beneficial for him is better. It is worth noting that there are cases where recitation or remembrance is better, such as during times when prayer is forbidden, or glorifying Allah (tasbeeh) during bowing and prostration.
