To what extent is the hadith authentic which narrates that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to a man who wanted to get married: "Even if Gabriel and Michael and I with them were to pray, you would not marry except the woman whom Allah has decreed for you, for it is proclaimed in the heavens: 'Behold, the woman of so-and-so son of so-and-so is so-and-so daughter of so-and-so'"?

The hadith (definition) in question is: "From Urwah ibn Muhammad al-Sa'di, from his father: A man from the Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: 'I wish to marry a woman, so supplicate to Allah for me.' He turned away from him three times, each time he said [the same request]. Then he turned to him and said: 'Even if Israfil, Jibril, Mika'il, and the bearers of the Throne were to supplicate for you, and I among them, you would only marry the woman who has been decreed for you.'" This hadith has been declared weak by Sheikh Al-Albani and others.
