The answer

The meaning of persistence (al-ilhad) in supplication (du'a) is to adhere to it, repeat it, and continue it, without despairing of a response, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Your supplications will be answered as long as you are not in a hurry." The persistent one is he who continuously asks his Lord in all his states, and this is an evidence of the soundness of the heart and the sincerity of servitude. As for humility and lowliness during supplication, these are beloved by Allah the Almighty, and to the extent of a servant's humility to his Lord and his brokenness before Him, will be his restoration and the fulfillment of his hopes.
