What is known about Imam Asim (Hafs from Asim), who are his narrators, and what is their chain of transmission?

Asim ibn Abi al-Najud was a great Imam and the chief reciter (muqri') of Kufa. He was born during the reign of Mu'awiyah and is considered one of the younger Tabi'in (successors). He studied the Quran under Abi Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and Zirr ibn Hubaysh. The leadership in recitation passed to him after his shaykh. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal described him as a righteous, good, and trustworthy man, and he preferred his recitation after the recitation of the people of Madinah. 'Asim was known for his abundant worship, prayer, and Quranic recitation. He passed away in the year 127 AH. As for Hafs, he was Hafs ibn Sulayman al-Asadi al-Kufi, 'Asim's stepson and most prominent companion. He was born in the year 90 AH. He narrated from several scholars and was the most knowledgeable person concerning 'Asim's recitation. He received 'Asim's recitation directly from people through recitation (talawah) and taught it in Baghdad and Makkah. Hafs passed away in the year 180 AH. 'Asim's chain of transmission (sanad) for his recitation was from Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, both of whom had recited to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
