Is it permissible to marry a Christian woman who regrets her unchaste past?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to marry a disbeliever (kafirah) except for chaste women from among the People of the Book. If she is an adulteress, it is not permissible to marry her until after her repentance and the expiration of her waiting period (iddah). The sounder opinion is that the repentance of an adulteress is by refraining from adultery if she is tempted to it, and it has been said by regret, seeking forgiveness, and resolving not to return to it. It is advisable to avoid marrying her to prevent the corruption of life and regret.
