Why is a woman's testimony not accepted in cases of Zina (unlawful sexual intercourse)?

The rulings of Islamic Sharia are based on wisdom and the welfare of people, and a Muslim must comply with God's command. Adultery is one of the most heinous crimes, and Islam has made strict provisions for bearing witness to it, in order to protect honor. Therefore, only the testimony of four upright men is accepted in such cases. If they do not produce four witnesses, the حد القذف (punishment for false accusation) is applied to them. This requires verification and scrutiny, and women often cannot endure that. Perhaps this is the reason why their testimony is not accepted in these matters.
