What is the punishment for cursing the religion, what is the legality of working for someone who has done so, and is the inquirer sinful for not defending the religion, other than seeking recompense from Allah?

Cursing the religion is a heinous act of disbelief, and its perpetrator is exposed to eternal damnation in Hell, unless he repents. Whoever hears him must denounce him and strive to guide him through advice, encouragement, and admonition, and by clarifying the gravity of what he uttered and the obligation of repentance. As for working with him, it is permissible, just as working with disbelievers is permissible, provided that Islamic regulations are adhered to.
