What is the ruling for someone who forgets a verse from the Qur’an after Surah Al-Fatihah in prayer, or makes a mistake in it, then remembers it after a long or short period? And must he go back to correct the mistake? And is his prayer invalidated if he does not go back? And must he repeat it? And should one who forgets a verse stop until he remembers it, or should he bow? And what should one do who cannot remember the correct wording of the verse?

Intentionally mispronouncing words (Lahn) in recitation invalidates the prayer, but forgetting does not. If someone forgets a verse during their recitation, they are not obligated to go back to it, and their prayer is not invalidated. If they choose to go back and recite it, there is no harm in that, as Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did. If someone becomes confused during recitation, they have the choice of moving to another section or bowing. The one who forgets is not held accountable, and the pen is lifted from them.
