Is a divorce enacted or is expiation obligatory for one who swore, while angry and intending to threaten, "By God, by the three divorce pronouncements, if you close the door again with such violence, you are divorced," and then an altercation occurred and the door was closed?

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce unless there is a complete loss of consciousness. Swearing by divorce has the ruling of a contingent divorce, and it takes effect upon the occurrence of the condition sworn upon. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars that we issue fatwas according to, even if the intention was only to threaten. If a contingent divorce takes place, then subsequent divorces in which the oath was not broken do not take effect. It is advisable to consult the Sharia (definition) court due to factors that may affect the oath, such as the motive behind it, and to be wary of anger and avoid swearing by divorce.
