What is ruled for the betrothed woman after the engagement is broken, and does dropping the claim for the gold and gifts absolve one's responsibility?

Scholars have differed on the permissibility of the dowry being valid by means of Hajj or Umrah. One group has forbidden it. If this occurs, the wife is entitled to the dowry of her peers (mahr al-mithl). If she is divorced before consummation, she is entitled to half the dowry of her peers, and what was paid as an advance or given as gifts is calculated from it if it was considered part of the dowry. If what she received equals half the dowry, then she has received her right in full. If it exceeds that, the excess is returned by her. If it is less, the half is completed for her.
