How can a Christian man, whose whereabouts I do not know, and who may have returned to his country, be compensated?

The owner of the tape must be sought out to return it to him. If it is impossible to reach him, its value should be given as charity for the general welfare of Muslims. The rightful owner remains at liberty to either accept the charitable donation or demand its value if he is found later.
