What is the ruling on a husband who accumulates debts for his wife and abandons her and the financial support of his children, even though he knows that she seeks help from others, despite her many sacrifices for him?

The maintenance of the wife and children is obligatory upon the husband according to his ability. If the husband is able to provide maintenance and causes his wife to beg from people, then he is in error and must repent and give them their right. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is sufficient sin for a man to withhold provision from those whom he supports." If the husband is in hardship, Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. The wife has the choice between enduring patiently or demanding the annulment of the marriage due to the inability to provide maintenance.
